Serendipity, Plan On It
Serendipity, although not magic, is certainly the spice of life. Serendipities are the unexpected favors that we can only appreciate, not understand. We have all been enchanted by precipitous and delightful events that seem to be sculptured by the gods of fortune. It seems that serendipity comes in all flavors, from small events that bring joy to the moment to offerings that change the course of life.
Miracles are events that appear not to conform to the laws of nature; something that is extraordinary. Serendipities can be extraordinary, they are not miracles but events that show up via the natural order and normal avenues of everyday life.
Serendipity is a uniquely personal experience whereas the same opportunity presented to one would be meaningless to another. What makes an event serendipitous is its relationship to one’s aspirations or goals. This includes our secret desires as well as our declared objectives. We can have hidden agendas that are as important as our overt pursuits.
It is often in retrospect that we can truly appreciate the value of what seemed to be innocuous events that turned out to be valuable links to fortuitous outcomes. In hind sight it all looks so logical and practical but at the time it was somewhat mystifying. There are even “unfortunate” experiences that lead to valuable results, which are never valued until time reveals the treasure produced by awkward events.
Serendipty and Discovery
History is strewn with admissions of serendipity as the source
of innovation and discovery. Many scientists, researchers and inventors credit their
breakthroughs to serendipitous events that are often called accidents. If serendipity
did not exist in the field of discovery we would be much poorer for it, living in
a more primitive world. Serendipity works hand in glove with the intellectual process
as a tool of evolution. A review of innovative history will reveal a number of society
changing discoveries that were serendipitous in nature.
The pursuit of clearly defined goals and/or desires coupled with clarity of mind and awareness provides fertile ground for the magic of serendipity. No doubt opportunities are missed or even ignored when we have rigid preconceived notions about how particular segments of life should proceed. Therefore it is critical that we are open to the “magic” that is available via the most unlikely of channels. Conversely we do not want to be focused on the unusual as our good can come through the most common and familiar conduits.
It may be valuable to know that when we are holding a desire or actively pursuing an intended objective, our inner guidance will work in concert with us to provide insights and inspirations that help manifest our thoughts, often in a surprising and entertaining ways. Be prepared to be fascinated and amazed as you experience serendipity.
