Authority Or Servant
Most of us are well conditioned to “authority worship” as an unconscious behavioral pattern. We give people of authority the power and permission to control our lives and lead us in directions that we would not choose if we had more autonomous power. Religion is an example of how we give other humans elevated status with the power to guide our lives. Politicians are born from the desire to be honored and powerful as the masses need “leaders”.
In all strata of earthly societies and cultures there is a hierarchy of authority to which the populace readily acquiesces. The many can be easily dominated by a very few due primarily to the established systems of authority. This is simply the current state of the human condition and it will be many eons before humankind advances to the point where we do not look to authorities for direction. As we evolve there will be less conflict, poverty, ill health and fewer authority figures that we would allow to control our lives.
When we “follow our bliss” we are on the right path as this inner prompting is not based upon ideology or cultural mores but a transcendent innate guidance that fulfills and evolves. As our thinking is always ON, so is our inner guidance. Unfortunately it most often is in conflict with our ego and we tend to ignore or dismiss its promptings. However, most of us have experienced listening to our higher counsel from time to time and know that it serves us well. When we have the courage to follow our inner guidance there will always be movement in the direction that is to our benefit either immediately or in the future.
Our spiritual nature is our real authority but unlike worldly authority it does not demand compliance to its counseling even though it always leads us to the high ground where our benefit does not violate another. The more we can access our inner guidance the more successful at life we will be; being successful at life means being fulfilled while changing and advancing.
Some individuals like to personalize the unseen influences by giving them names, personalities and voices; names such as spirit guides, guardian angels, channeled beings, etc. Others have no interest in the personalization of these forces preferring to acknowledge them as their inner guidance or as a higher aspect of themselves.
Others who are more materialistic “follow their gut” or have “intuitive thinking” and depend upon this source of guidance as a means to make important judgments. Successful business people often admit that they use internal guidance for decision making. The recognition of an unseen influence of an expanded intelligence has been a part of humankind’s history since the beginning of oral and written traditions.
It is important that we not view the unseen forces as authorities who control and dominate us. These forces, laws and/or entities are our servants in a sense and we as individuals are the authority. We are the source creators of our experience and no unseen energy has the power to influence unless invited to do so.
To acknowledge the fact that we have guidance and help from unseen sources is a valuable asset. It gives us a sense of power and resolve when we know that we have support for our worthy endeavors. When we consciously and intentionally enlist assistance from the unseen resources there is an awareness of our relationship to a larger realm. Knowing that we are the creative authority influencing this realm brings the awareness of our power and more importantly, our responsibility.
